Planting
Choose the Right Location:
Sunlight:
Thuja Green Giants thrive in full sun (at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight daily) but can tolerate partial shade. More sun generally leads to denser foliage and faster growth.

Soil:
They are adaptable to various soil types, including clay and sandy soils. However, they prefer moist, fertile, and well-drained loamy soil. Avoid planting in areas with chronic standing water or poorly draining, soggy conditions.

Spacing:
For a privacy screen or hedge, space trees 5-6 feet apart. When planting near buildings, driveways, or roads, allow at least five feet of space.

Dig the Planting Hole:
Dig a hole 1 1/2 times as wide as the root ball and only as deep as the root ball's height. Avoid planting too deep, as this can hinder growth and potentially cause root rot.

Prepare the Tree:
Gently remove the tree from its container. Tease apart any circling roots to encourage outward growth.

Plant the Tree:
Place the tree in the center of the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with or slightly above the surrounding soil line. Backfill the hole with the soil you removed, gently tamping it down to eliminate air pockets. Avoid compacting the soil too much.

Water Thoroughly:
Immediately after planting, water the tree deeply until the soil is thoroughly saturated.
Mulch: Apply a 3-6 inch layer of organic mulch (such as wood chips, bark, or compost) around the base of the tree, extending out to the drip line. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the trunk to prevent rot. Mulch helps retain soil moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds.

Caring & Watering the First Year:
Water newly planted trees frequently, about every day or two for the first 2-3 months, to help establish strong roots. Ensure the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged.

After Establishment (2+ Years): Once established, Green Giants are relatively drought-tolerant. Water deeply and less frequently, about once a week during dry periods. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, indicated by discolored, drooping branches. Underwatering can cause needle tips to turn brown and yellow foliage.

Fertilizing:
Generally, These trees do not require heavy fertilization. If desired, apply a balanced, slow-release evergreen fertilizer (18-6-12) in early spring to promote vigorous growth. Avoid fertilizing at planting time or during the first year. Follow the fertilizer manufacturer's instructions.

Pruning:
Minimal pruning is usually needed as Green Giants naturally maintain a uniform, pyramidal shape. Remove any dead, damaged, or diseased branches as needed. If you desire to maintain a specific size or shape for a hedge, light shearing can be done during the growing season. Avoid heavy pruning, as it can affect the tree's natural form. Early to mid-fall is a good time for light pruning of established trees.

Pest and Disease Control:

Winter Care:
