When you are considering how to grow Thuja Trees, remember that these are easy-care plants. You can shear them if you like, but pruning is not necessary. Irrigate them during dry weather even after establishment to ensure that your plants stay healthy.

Thuja Green Giant Arborvitae trees will grow to be 25 to 35 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 6 to 8 feet.  It grows at a fast rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 60 years or more.

The biggest thing that sets us apart from most other nurseries selling Thujas is we grow what we sell. In the beginning I would drive all over the country looking for Thujas to resale. This would not have been so bad other than you never new the kind of quality you would find. Now we grow the Thujas we sale, this makes the quality of our trees much more consistent. Over time we have learned a good way of packing the trees to where they make it to our customers in great shape. We have had 3 or 4 boxes damaged in the last 4 years.

Plant 5 to 6 Ft. apart. Stay back 4 Ft. off property lines. Will grow 6 to 8 Ft. wide x 30 to 35 Ft. tall.

Do Not plant your Thujas closer than 5 Ft. apart thinking of quicker coverage ! If you plant to close together it will cause die-back as trees grow larger, not enough air circulation.

History :

Thuja Green Giant arborvitae (standishii x plicata) has replaced Leyland cypress as the landscaper's plant of choice for an evergreen hedge or specimen tree. It received the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Gold Medal Plant Award in 1988 and remains popular because of its fast growth and low-maintenance. Young plants grow 3 to 4 feet per year. Their roots are fairly shallow, but strong enough to prevent the tree from toppling in high winds.

D.T. Poulsen nursery of Copenhagen, Denmark, selected and introduced this cultivar in the mid-1960s. It is marketed as a very effective tree for screening and is regarded as a hardier substitute for Leyland Cypress.

Thuja Green Giant is a vigorously growing, pyramidal evergreen with rich green color that remains outstanding throughout hardiness range. It has no serious pest or disease problems and has been widely grown and tested in commercial nursery production. Thuja Green Giant is an excellent substitute for Leyland cypress.
