Colorful new dogwood cultivar
'Heartthrob ... will steal your heart!
You’ll fall in love with Heart Throb® Dogwood (Cornus kousa
‘Schmred’ P.P. 9283) once you see its large reddish to rose-pink
flowers unfurl in the spring. Formed by bracts and reaching up to four
inches in diameter, the flowers last as long as two months in Oregon,
where it was selected and introduced by Jim Schmidt of Don Schmidt
Nursery.
Attractive dark green foliage turns deep red in the fall, when red fruits
of about 3/4" diameter also provide seasonal interest. Mature height
and spread is approximately 20 feet, and hardiness is USDA Zone 5.
Long lasting red flowers start blooming in late May. Prefers sun to
partial shade. Resistant to borer and anthracnose. Attractive dark
green foliage turns deep red in the fall, when red fruits of about 3/4"
diameter also provide seasonal interest. Like all Dogwood trees, well-
drained soil is a must!
This is a very hard to find Dogwood, but well worth the
search. Hardy in zones 5 to 9
